Affiliate Marketing is earning a commission by promoting a product or service. It’s a monetization model where you can create revenue opportunities for yourself by promoting products you already buy. We’ve seen this model work for online marketing but podcasters rarely take advantage of this. Using affiliate marketing to jumpstart your podcast monetization is beneficial for the following reasons:
It’s great personal endorsement practice. Learning to create impactful copy that resonates with your audience involves a bit of trial and error. In the podcast advertising world each ad read must be organic which means that week after week you’ll have to create new ways to introduce the same products to your audience. This is TRULY and art and should be practiced regularly.
You will learn to track your conversion. This will help you to know what kinds of advertisers you should target because you will know what products your listeners purchase based on your recommendation. This is an important component of the advertising process even for some of the latest shows. If you can’t get your listeners to connect your message and purchase the products you’re endorsing then brands will cancel their campaigns. It’s just the nature of the business.
You get paid while learning. I absolutely love to get paid to learn new things. If you do an awesome job and sell some products you make some money. Seeing some level of success will keep you going. Add as many affiliate ads as you want to the episode but try to stay at or below 3 brands per episode and be sure to not include competing companies in the same episode.
